Unwired Access Backbone / Network

The technologies used by Unwired are generally based on the speed of the service being delivered to the customer premises. Unwired only uses managed (Private or apparatus licensed) spectrum to deliver wireless Internet or VPN services.

Unwired uses WiMAX 802.16d for services ranging in speeds from 2 Mbps - 10 Mbps, operating in the Unwired owned 3.5 GHz spectrum. This approach makes use of point to multipoint systems where a single WiMAX base station provides service to a number of customers based on a 4:1 contention ratio.

A proprietary Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) based solution operating in the 3.5 GHz band is used for point-to-point services between 10 Mbps and 50 Mbps aggregate bandwidth speeds. These services are dedicated to a single customer and offer an un-contended access service.

Apparatus licensed spectrum solutions are used for bandwidth requirements between 50 Mbps and 400 Mbps.

Every Unwired access site contains networking equipment and monitoring hardware, air-conditioning and backup batteries in the case of power failure and is managed by a 24x7 Network Operations Centre.
