What is WiMAX?

Unwired Business uses a powerful and secure wireless technology known as WiMAX. This provides broadband connectivity from base stations to locations across metropolitan and remote
areas. Your business connects to the network via wireless device and is then able to transmit and receive data at high speeds.

WiMAX has proven to be a highly reliable broadband communication method. Signals can travel several kilometres at data rates of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps). This makes WiMAX an appealing option for business users who rely on fast and reliable communication services every day.

Technical standards

WiMAX technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, as defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Unwired Business uses the 802.16d WiMAX standard, which provides fixed services for both the consumer and business market. It is a mature and reliable technology with more than 455 networks in over 135 countries today.

We are also a member of the WiMAX Forum, an industry-led, not-for-profit organisation that promotes broadband wireless products globally. Established in 1991, the WiMAX Forum has more than
500 members, including BT, CISCO, Dell, Ericsson, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony.
